Mission Statement

Our key objective has always been to develop better writers.  First the challenge was to improve our own writing and over time as others came to write with us, to assist them in developing their abilities as well.  Part of every evening is the reading, by individual writers of their work for group discussion and suggestion, not criticism.

We’ve used our organizational skills to host book launches, evenings combining dinner and poetry readings, hosted a variety of workshops to enhance a writer’s skill set, including applying for grants, preparing to send work to a publisher and mentoring and readings by well known and successful Canadian poets.  In November 2010 Poets’ Ink hosted a one day workshop on researching a writer’s topic or theme and then writing from that research, our facilitator was award winning non-fiction writer Myrna Kostash.

Though our focus has been the writing of poetry, it has become obvious that writers of all genres benefit from the exercises and challenges we present at each gathering.  Partnering with Profiles Gallery and the Arden Theatre, we are regularly invited to attend visual art and musical openings, write a poem or two about the art on display and read our works before introducing the feature performer. These Sunday events are highly successful and well received

Every writer is welcome to join us and participate on writing nights, at workshops or other special events.
