Thinking of Glen
Glen Arthur Kirkland
It is
with great sadness and heavy hearts that we acknowledge the death of Glen Arthur Kirkland Dec. 26, 1950 – Dec. 1, 2010
Glen began his teaching career with Edmonton Catholic Schools in 1972 at St. Joseph High School, where he served four years before transferring to Archbishop MacDonald where he served his next year. He then took a position at the University of Alberta as a practicum associate; there he worked on curriculum and instructional courses. In 1979, he worked at Austin O’Brien as head of language arts department for 8 years. In 1986, he worked for Learning Support Services where he was Consultant for English Language Arts Junior and Senior High.
Glen co-authored approximately 28 English textbooks. He has also written poetry, plays and worked with Alberta Teacher’s Association for 8 years. He enjoyed teaching and mentoring several new teachers. His message to them was to always be creative in their work. Unfortunately, he had to step away from his career in 1999 due to illness. He passed away after a long battle with cancer. Loved and respected by so many, his infectious good spirit and generous nature will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace.
